It's Christmastime Again

My third and youngest son arrived home from his first semester of college last night.
The UK freshman is
Home for Christmas.

He's matured leaps and bounds.
His curly blonde hair is long and wavy and wild.
She likes it that way.

I'm still getting used to it.
But it's growing on me.

He's worked his butt off to make straight A's.
Finals were finished up yesterday.
We shall see.

He asked for brownies with red chocolate chips.

I sip a glass of red...
as the brownies bake
and the music plays
and my mind wanders
very,
very,
far.

Inescapably.

How To Survive Christmas

I stumbled upon a blog that makes me giggle.
A lot.

I'll be back for more.

One of the blogger's posts was entitled,
"Christmas Cards That Are Actually Funny."

This was among them,
designed by NaughtyLittleCards,
Etsy.

I think I might have to agree.
CHEERS!

Have Yourself a Balmy Little Christmas

What's it like where you live?
Here,
they're expecting 72 for the high on Sunday,
only 7 degrees cooler than temps on Marco Island for Sunday.

What's up with this warm, balmy weather?
Some people don't mind it.
and I'm not hating it,
but the closer it gets to Christmas,
I'm truly hoping for a little more seasonal weather.
Maybe ... like ... a little a bunch of the white fluffy stuff?

We haven't even had our first "tease" snow.

I'm gonna have to get after those snow fairies...

It's been YEARS ... too many to count ... since I've
attended The Nutcracker Ballet.
It's showing this weekend in our town.

It might be pretty awesome to go...

It's impossible not to get in the holiday spirit
watching The Nutcracker.

Let's Celebrate the Fourth at the Lake

Nowhere else I’d rather be on The Fourth.
We'll
eat
sleep
boat
fish
laugh
dance
sing
 tell stories
watch fireworks
and
celebrate
our country's freedom.

Let's go.
Time's a'wastin!

Hey, Mom, Can I Throw a NYE Party?

That was Colton's off-the-cuff request at 9:30 p.m. on December 30th, less than 24 hours away from his anticipated Big Event.

And after an initial inclination to schizz out a bit, considering the window of time I was faced with, I caved and thought to myself -- oh why not.  Some day he won't be here, and I'll wish I had done more, tried harder. Taken more chances.  I wanted no regrets.  I wanted my son to have a memorable New Year's Eve at home with his friends.

Let's do this.

I cancelled my trip to the gym Wednesday morning, heading instead to the grocery store and a few other stops to hastily gather menu items, party supplies, noise makers.  We decided on meatballs, wings, pizza bites, mac-n-cheese, buffalo chicken dip, veggies, chips, and Oreo truffles.  I remembered I still had two large bags of NYE decorations in the attic from the party we threw in 2011.  Bingo.

But do I have enough time to clean, cook, and decorate before 7:30 p.m.?  Somehow I managed, with Zach's help! His 6'2 frame sure came in handy, hanging the orbs and ribbons.  Crack open the festivities!

After showering and getting blinged up, I tended to last-minute food preps while sipping on Ergo, dancing to early jazz -- so New Year's, no? -- and enjoying the sounds of Oscar Peterson.  Colton dropped in and out to check on the progress, and he was pleased with everything except my music choices.  No worries, son, I'm outta here when the first guest arrives and you can listen to YOUR music then, deal?  The cook gets to choose the music during prep time!
